Bouncing Off Energy

How do you get a child with Autism to be calm, relaxed, and focused during his occupational therapy? You burn off ALL of his energy.
Charlie, our sweet 8 year old who is non-verbal and severely affected by Autism, cannot sit still. He has more energy than the electric company. It takes a team of us to keep up with him. Charlie frequently gets frustrated when he has to sit too long and struggles focusing on tasks unless he has a means to get his energy out. At OT they are wonderful about allowing Charlie to use their equipment when we show up early. This quick video shows how Emily helps him to burn off the extra energy in a fun way. Happy to report that he had a great night at Occupational Therapy, was super focused, and did not get aggressive or frustrated. Just wish we could bottle his energy up so we could keep up with him.
